The GEIC is a 60m capital project to construct the world's foremost Centre for graphene commercialisation, currently being built on campus at The University of Manchester, the Centre is due to be operational in September 2018.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious post-doctoral graduate to engage in knowledge exchange with companies at the leading edge of graphene science.
We are looking to recruit up to 6 Application Specialists who can demonstrate appropriate expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Composites
- Barriers and Membranes
- Surface Modification / Coatings / Inks
- Batteries and Energy Storage
- Material Manufacture
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
You should have a PhD (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics or a related discipline. It would be advantageous to have competence in carbon nanomaterials, transmission and scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Candidates with demonstrable experience in graphene research would be particularly welcome.
A strong scientific or engineering background and broad knowledge of the chemistry - using industry.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to deal with both scientific and commercial issues authoritatively.
Ability to understand and communicate key technological aspects of science and engineering.
Ability to plan, organize, co - ordinate and execute to ensure the production of the agreed deliverables to the project plan.
Good negotiation and contracting skills.
Experience in managing projects and/or contracts with multiple partners in a technical environment.
Ability and motivation to set goals and meet targets in a market - led environment working across a broad range of industrial sectors.
Self - motivation and the capability of being team player as well as team leader.
The Application Specialist will be involved in conducting a number of short-term applied projects in partnership with a diverse range of industrial partners looking to investigate the use of graphene and its derivatives in a range of applications.
