Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Nanomaterials and Devices Laboratory (NDL) at the University of North Texas, Denton, to conduct research on studying the optoelectronic properties of nanomaterials and nanodevices. The thrust areas of research in NDL are to synthesize low-dimensionality materials such as graphene and other two-dimensional (2D) layered materials, characterize their unique properties using a suite of electronic and opto-electronic transport techniques, and integrate these materials into devices for nanoelectronics, flexible electronics, sensors, and solar cells. We are looking for a highly motivated and creative individual, with an interest in analyzing the optical and electronic properties of 2D layered materials and comparing the results to theoretical modeling. Direct hands-on experience in the experimental characterization of the opto-electronic properties of 2D layered materials and devices (e.g. WSe2, black phosphorus, graphene, perovskites, etc.) is highly desired.

Opportunities exist to engage in collaborative research with leading labs within UNT, and high-profile researchers across the country and internationally.

The candidate is expected to work independently and also mentor junior graduate students in small teams, as appropriate.

Must be able to work collaboratively and in a team environment. The research conducted under this Postdoctoral Fellowship should provide a very good opportunity for the candidate to further develop his/her skills in nanotechnology research for a career in academia or industry.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in physics, although applicants with a background in electrical engineering or materials science would be considered depending on the specific prior experience of the candidates as it relates to photonics, opto-electronics, and device design and theoretical modelling.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate shall have a track record of research accomplishments in his/her field through scholarly peer-reviewed publications, good written and oral communication skills, and demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: setting up broadband and/or narrow-band opto-electronic measurements including determining quantum efficiency, IR detector response, solar cells, bolometers, characterization and integration of plasmonic structures with nanomaterials, design and characterization of RF and microwave structures using nanomaterials, low noise measurements including at cryogenic temperatures, and theoretical modeling of material properties and devices. Top-down micro- and nanofabrication and/or bottom up synthesis experience, or hands-on training in Raman Spectroscopy and Atomic Force Microscopy is highly beneficial though not a requirement for this position.
